The PS talks are back – with Luke Walker of LEJ
A new season of talks is starting this Autumn, following the same format as the four we held last year - with Ethan Newton, Tony Sylvester, Jamie Ferguson and Rubato.
The evenings at Mortimer House were immensely enjoyable, with around 50 readers gathering for drinks on the top floor of Mortimer, gazing out over London. Afterwards they sat patiently and interestedly (as only a PS reader does) while we discussed the intricacies of menswear.
Our next talk will be on Friday, September 29 with Luke Walker, designer and founder of the brand LEJ.
I'm excited about this one because Luke is not a typical classic-menswear interviewee. He went to fashion school, he designed for Lanvin and Dunhill, before then working at Drake's and starting LEJ. He has a particularly broad perspective, bringing in the wide world of fashion to our little niche. I'm looking forward to discussing the differences and divergences.
As with last year, please register to attend the talk by emailing [email protected]. We need a list for Mortimer House, and have a cap of 50 people.
For everyone around the world who can't attend, it will be filmed and published on PS, again as with the previous talks.
See you all there.
Is Manish one of the models on the LEJ website? If so, does he and/or Permanent Style have a commercial relationship, e.g. PR or promotion, with the brand?
Yes he is, and no he doesn’t
Hi simon, https://www.lej.london/products/nu-00067-aa7-come-up-to-the-camp-shirt
it’s 125 grams, you’ll be able to tell me mostly easily, is that very very light, like 3-5 oz? On the lej site it also says Manish is wearing a Medium, how tall is he for comparison,
this might be a bit much to ask but does the pocket also look huge? Or is that part of the very relaxed style?
That’s light, but not extremely so. It’s not going to be flyaway or transparent.
I would use the measurements to compare to your own shirts, rather than go off Manish. Bear in mind length of torso etc can also vary.
The pocket is big but certainly not huge. It is part of the style to highlight that, as with the contrast stitching.
Hello Simon, if you had to build a wardrobe from scratch as a 25-30 years old man (smart casual style). What would it contain? And in which brand would you invest?
Hey,
We have a whole section on this – wardrobe building. Maybe start with a look at those pieces (and the comments) and ask any follow-up questions you have on them?
Cheers
Simon,
when I went to the homepage of LEJ, the quite similar homepage of S.E.H Kelly. Sprang into my mind. I find their design quite interesting but am not sure if it is too far off the middle ground. Any chance that you will review S.E.H Kelly in the future?
Kr Markus
Hey Markus,
Have you read my previous article on Paul and SEH Kelly here? I talk a little there about how much I admire his work, but it’s generally not for me.
Are there any tailors in London not on Savile Row that you recommend/see as style innovators or represent value?
Certainly David, there are many. As far as style is concerned, I would suggest Michael Browne. He’s certainly not cheap, but he does his own thing and it’s amazing.
For value, I’d suggest Whitcomb & Shaftesbury’s offshore bespoke, which is still absolutely top notch but that little bit cheaper and not on the Row.
Did you want more options style-wise?
Hi Simon, did this talk place? If so, will there be a recording? Also I thought that LEJ was going to be part of your pop up – did plans change? thanks,
Hi,
Yes it did, and yes there will be. Should be a week or two.
No, LEJ was never part of this pop-up. They used the space back in the Spring, but we don’t have that space any more so this Autumn we’re just on our own for a few days – see details here
