Best,
Simon and Lucas
“ New Winter Tweed coat – Double-breasted, warm, gorgeous and grey”. You are both such a tease!
All good news. Will we be seeing the long awaited gray in the tapered tee?
Yep!
This is very good news
Thanks Simon. These updates are great. Looking forward to seeing the Raincoat and the Winter Coat !
Will the grey colour of the tapered t-shirt be arriving in November too ? I had thought it was earlier but I may be wrong. Also appreciate timings change !
Thanks !
Yes it will – hopefully it will be earlier, we’re being a little pessimistic with that
I’d better start saving!! The new polo, are you able to share details as yet? Will it be button down? Colours? And long sleeve I presume…? Too many other questions re almost everything on your list Simon, so I’ll let your other readers have their say….
Spread collar, long sleeve, white and navy. Nothing else yet though
Very exciting, Simon! When you say “versatile”, do you mean more casual?
Covering a greater range of casual and formal
Thanks for the update. Looking forward! Do you have any plans of restocking the Dartmoor sweater in the cream colour?
Not currently no, though it’s likely we will at some point
Hi Simon, apologies if I missed it, but are you planning to restock the Dartmoor in general? Believe I had seen it listed in your last shop update.
Yes, sorry, just waiting on confirmation of delivery date on that, though it will be limited – probably just restocking the navy
Congrats on developing such a breadth to the shop. Regarding the crewneck, is it designed to be work over a shirt and can you say anything about care / washing?
The Finest Crewneck? Details are all here (post and comments)
Hi Simon, I am looking forward to the Oxford cloth! On a separate note, what is the light brown jacket in the photo above (the one shown with the white polo)? Thanks.
It’s my cotton suit from Caliendo
Thanks for the update, Simon!
Looking forward to picking up the Polo, Raincoat, Undershirts, Grey T-shirt and maybe some OCBD cloth. Excited to see your new cashmere project, too!
‘New denim shirts’ means that new denim cloths will also be available?
No, the new denim shirts are different to those we’ve had historically – they’re a garment wash (like most denim shirts out there) which means the material needs to be washed like that to fade. There would be no point offering the cloth on its own, as it wouldn’t look the same at all.
Grey and a blue Simon? I believe a grey was featured in a previous article
Just blue initially, then hopefully the grey/black we talked about in that article
Oh that’s a shame. I remember you mentioning the Everyday Denim cloth wouldn’t be coming back, but please reconsider at some point – your long-armed readers would surely be grateful!
Unfortunately it’s partly been forced upon us as the cloth was getting more and more unstable, with more wastage or premature fading
Thank you very much for this, I think these posts are always very useful. Is there anything else you can share on the raincoat, such as how long is it going to be and price point? No worries if you’d rather wait until the launch.
It will be the length I like and usually recommend, firmly below the knee. But no that’s it I’m afraid
I assume it’s the same with the length of the winter coat? I have always lacked a grey overcoat and I’m looking forward to that one!
Yep
I am planning to buy another overcoat for this winter and am thinking of waiting for yours . I already own your Donegal though in dark grey. Would you say the new model is so different and suitable for other purposes that I can justify it alongside the Donegal (I also own a formal navy DB tailored overcoat). Thank you.
Yes I think so, the dark grey would be quite different
Simon, I might be reading into this but it sounds like between the new coat and last year’s grey donegal coat there won’t be that much of a difference in utility?
Hey ZY. No, they will feel quite different and have different uses – this one is a proper winter coat, heavier and double-breasted. The donegal is more a lightweight coat, great for a lot of the time but not for the depths of winter.
Thanks for the response Simon! Isn’t the PS coat tweed also heavier than 20oz?
Yes it is, but it’s still not what I’d call a deep winter coat, because of the weight but also because it’s a loose, single-breasted coat. Different from something that is a little more fitted and traps the air, and from something that’s double-breasted and so has twice the weight across the front where you feel the cold most
Hi Simon – is there a possibility a size in between medium and large could be considered for shirts? I would buy some instantly if that was the case.
I’m sorry Hywel, no. If we did anything it would be to add extra sizes at the top and bottom.
There is of course the cloth you can buy, though, to have them made. Or, with shirts you can always alter the body a lot, with darts etc, just as long as the chest, shoulders, and neck are right
Thiat is a shame as the large gap between medium and large means that many people cannot purchase the shirts since the large is far too big to be feasibly altered.
Sorry Richard, we do get quite a bit of feedback on the sizing and it seems to work well for a lot of people. I assume you mean the large is too big for it to be altered for you?
Simon, is there a gap in the market for a particular PS chino/smart casual trouser?
Absolutely, we’ve been trying to develop one for about three years! Basically to replace my favourite ever ones that the Armoury used to do. We are working on still. It would lean a little more workwear-like though.
Hi Simon,
How would a PS chino fit alongside the bespoke chinos your worked with W&S in developing? Guessing this new option would be RTW and so a different price point?
Yes, very different in being RTW
I second interest in a smart casual chino-like trouser!
Yes please do do do!
Another vote from me!
Yes a good version from PS would be great!
I would like a heavy duty workwear chino!
I actually feel like what is missing in the market is a slightly smarter chino. Workwear styles (for me the main distinguishing feature would be a double stitch on the outside leg) are widely available (e.g. Rubato, RRL, Drakes, real mccoys etc.) But would be really interested in a smarter version.
I agree. I think it would be hard to improve the workwear styles from Iron Heart or Real McCoys and there are several other decent options (RRL etc.) in that style. In my opinion there is no real gap there for PS. But in the high end smarter casual style, there is one.
I disagree Dieter – too many of the workwear chinos are low and skinny or high and wide in my view, as they’re either trying to reproduce the old US Army chino or make something contemporary (see review of some here, for example)
Simon i can see your point. If you can improve the ones from Real McCoys and Iron Heart, everybody would be happy. I also think the version from Tellason is a valuable option and between the two kinds you mentioned.
Thanks Dieter, I haven’t tried that one but I will try to – there certainly are a lot out there!
Do you sometimes still wear your RMC blue seal chinos or your Buzz Rickson’s chinos? Or what are your concerns with the fits? The RMC is a bit slim and low, as you mentioned. The Buzz Rickson’s are maybe a touch wide from the knee down.
I do, yes, but those are my biggest issues with both of them. I like the Buzz Rickson, but it’s so straight it looks almost flared. I would need to have them tapered.
Yes, I had them tapered this week. Slightly from the knee down. I hope they turn out well. And of course nothing you can do about the low back rise of the RMC.
Do you also have your chinos tapered only from the inseam (or only your jeans)? My alterations tailor was very sure that she wants to do it also from the outside, so the legs won’t turn. Especially when it is quite a big change from 23 cm leg opening to 20 cm.
I usually only do the inside, yes, though as the change gets bigger there is that risk
Having bought quite a few PS products so far (oxford shirts, chambray shirt, t-shirts, shorts), all of which I really like, I would also be very excited if you developed a chino.
However, I disagree that there is a gap on the workwear-side. There are so many brands and good options.
By contrast, I find there is a gap in smart-casual range. While there are quite a few smart chinos (if they can even be called that; see e.g. https://rota-pantaloni.com/products/beige-pair-of-regular-fit-cotton-trousers?_pos=2&_fid=cedbf54a6&_ss=c), there seems to be very little in between them and the RealMcCoys. Rubato might hit the bill but they are cut to unconventional (too wide) for me and I guess for many others. The Armoury sport-chinos might fit the bill but they seem to be only available in the US and Hong-Kong and are probably a little touch too smart.
Thanks Markus. It feels like this is still a fairly narrow area though. Is the width the only issue with the Rubato ones? It feels unlikely any RTW chino is going to hit every width/rise/style point for all readers, so they’re pretty close.
By contrast, I don’t know any workwear pair that sits between the real high rise and wide leg style, and something much more narrow and low. Like the Rubato ones
And a PS: Yes, the width is the issue with the Rubato ones. It is pretty extreme bordering on the wide leg style. While you changed yours, I am sure that a lot of customers would not like to do that, like me (fear of throwing the whole trousers off balance, lack of capable tailors, additional cost and time involved).
Thanks, understood
Hi Markus, if it helped, i also got mine narrowed as i found them too wide. but it was an easy alteration (from memory, Pinnas was full of people doing after buying 🙂 )
I also recently tried some from A.B.C. L which fit that style quite well, but with more ‘modern’ legs. The quality isn’t the same as Rubato, but it’s not far off.
Hmmm.. Dark brown rugby… How would you say the PS cashmere rugby compares to the Rubato cashmere knitwear?
The Rugby is heavier, more cashmere etc, which is the main reason we introduced it. Similar quality, then obviously the difference in the collar
Hi Simon,
Looking forward to the grey t-shirt, I hope it arrives sooner than November :(.
One question, hopefully not a rude one, is there I reason why I should/shouldn’t buy a PSxPWVC item from the PWVC website instead of the PS shop? As some items are still in stock there.
Richard
Well, we make our money when you buy it through the PS shop, so we appreciate it when you buy it from us. A lot of readers do that for that reason, and they often appreciate the advice etc they get through these comments too.
If we don’t have something in stock and are not going to (eg most sizes of the Trench) then of course fine to buy it through PWVC. If it’s something we’re going to have in stock within a couple of weeks (eg Bridge Coat, Wax Walker) then it would be nice to wait and buy it through us.
Thanks for clarifying Simon.
Just to chime in, I found the despatch time quicker from PS (albeit still quick from Private White), and also wasn’t signed up for newsletters I hadn’t asked for from PS (unlike Private White). Also, with the incorporation of Apple Pay, PS was a great e commerce experience.
Simon – as you are not a massive e commerce operation, if things are ordered in good faith but don’t work out and are returned, is that all good?
Looking forward to the restocks and book sounds interesting too.
Cheers Alex.
We take returns, yes, see details on the Ts and Cs page
Thanks for letting us know that – assumed there was royalties regardless. Will bear in mind for future purchases
To be clear, there is a small royalty on their sales too, but by far the biggest comes from our own sales – that’s what really supports us
Hi Simon
Have you considered offering a gun club tweed, similar to your Ciardi jacket?
I have, but actually the original sellers of the cloth, Lafayette Saltiel, are working on something – we may even get involved, not sure yet
I would be super keen to get my hands on that tweed!
Actually, a gun club tweed would be amazing. I‘m looking for a tasty one like the one your Ciardi jacket is made of for ages, but couldn’t find one yet!
Hi Simon
Any other cloth besides the Shetland this year?
Thanks!
Bests
Tamaki
No, no other new cloths
Is the tweed coat the earlier mentioned overcoat. I am thinking about ordering a new navy overcoat and are thinking about the Donegal one. But are also interested in a double-breasted.
Yes it is
Would the shade of brown chosen for the cashmere rugby be closer to the dark brown of Colhay’s cashmere polo shirt, Rubato’s ‘earth’ brown lambswool, or the ‘cocoa’ or ‘mocha’ shades offered by William Crabtree & Sons in their 2 ply lambswool?
Thanks in advance,
I think it’s probably best to wait rather than try and conjure up an image
Very broad question, but what do you see as causing the continual supply chain issues among small and specialist manufacturers that seems to persist post-COVID. Is it that the outflux of labor has never been replaced, with many folks retiring in that period?
It’s the tail end of the problem, which was caused by factories shutting down during Covid and sometimes losing labour, then having all that demand come flooding in once Covid ended.
The leather piece, a gilet? in the last image looks interesting. I’ve read this piece thrice and don’t see any information on it. Can you tell us anything more on it please.
It’s the T-shirt that’s being highlighted there. The gilet is being worn by Taka in the launch article on the tee
All the best Simon, Lucas and PS Team for the coming arrivals for the two projects as well. I too hope they come along for you and your team. Yea 🥳
Cheers Amit
Thanks for the update Simon, a lot to look forward to! I do hope the solid pink and yellow oxford cloth isn’t gone forever.
No, we will bring those back at some point
Hi Simon,
Is the Permanent Style cashmere plaid (w/ Joshua Ellis) discontinued?
Dan
We’re not currently planning to rerun it, no, though last time I spoke to Joshua Ellis they had a small amount left. Have you checked their site?
Very curious about the new Friday Polo. Will the fit be more relaxed? I’ve always liked the design, but I found the fit to be too tight, particularly in the chest.
Yes it will be a little
Dear Simon.
Please add in some new colours to The Finest Cardigan range. I already have the navy and green one and I’ve been waiting for more for at least a year now.
Some warm tones would be a nice addition to the range e.g dark red. Or even something in a mid tone like cornflower blue etc.
If not would you mind sharing the supplier of your cardigans if they happen to make any other colours on their website?
Thanks
I’m afraid I won’t be Ivan. And there is no supplier that also sells them themselves – it’s a factory that doesn’t sell itself, and the design is unique to us (as pretty much everything is on PS)
All sound great but will limit myself to a crewneck (my friend raved about the birthday present I sent to him), a grey t-shirt and the winter tweed coat.
Would you consider doing a silver grey in the crewneck in the future?
Certainly, and thanks for the vote
Thank you.
One last question about the new tweed coat. I know you cannot go into too much detail yet but can you go as far as to say the sleeves and body could be lengthened (2cm~4cm) should the need arise?
Probably Dan, yes, but I’ll have to confirm once I have the making details
If the denim shirts are in an interesting or unique fabric it would be excellent to see them available as cut length cloth as well.
Hey David,
See comment above on that – it wouldn’t make sense, to me at least, as you need industrial washing to get the faded effect. But if people are still interested we can look to offer it.
I’d be interested in the cloth. The RTW shirts really don’t work for me, but Simone Abbarchi has made me some great shirts from PS Oxford, denim and chambray cloth.
OK thanks
count me as another vote for availability of the new denim cloth
Thanks Ben but did you see my explanation about it? I’m not sure it would really make any sense to supply just as cloth
Yes, saw the explanation. What will happen to the cloth in a consumer washing machine? Just age a lot slower vs industrial washing?
Was there an article about 100 Hands setting up an industrial washing facility? Or am I mistaken?
And, for the Everyday Denim… were the older production runs unstable as well, or just the newer runs? Did you and mill ever determine the cause?
Yes exactly.
No article about that, no.
Not really, and it seemed to get more unstable over time, but it’s hard to say as a non-expert.
I wonder if the raincoat is a collaboration with Coherence, I guess you don’t want to share that yet. Maybe you can share if the colour is same as on the one you sampled in your instagram feed, a more brownish olive?
Yes it is
Great news! Any chance of restocking the Donegal Coat in the darker charcoal from a couple seasons ago?
No, sorry Will
That’s a shame. It was the colour I liked best. I was hoping that you would offer the cloth in cut lengths. I don’t suppose you have any left in stock?
We don’t, sorry
Hi Simon,
Thanks for the update. I’m looking forward to picking up a few of them.
Can we expect the medium grey colorway for the Tapered t-shirts to drop this time?
See above in the comments on that Neil. Sorry to ask you to look there, but otherwise the same question is answered many times
My bad, didn’t go through the comments before posting.
No worries
Hi Simon: No updates on the Dartmoor sweater- Navy Blue? Thanks
See above in the other comments on that Zubair
Simon, very happy about the restock!
I hope my question does not come as rude but I was wondering about the pricing of Wax Walker that I intend to purchase.
PWVC increased the price to 895 GBP, so you intend to increase the pricing too or will you perhaps keep the currently listed 708 GBP?
Many thanks,
Jakub
Our prices will always be in line Jakub – keep in mind that the price you’re looking at is without VAT
Amazing news, standing by for the restock on PS 🙂 Cheers
Simon,
I’m in the market for a new Trench.
What material will your release be in and is it a JV with PWVC ?
Regards,
David
We’re not covering those details yet David
Simon,
I understand.
Can you confirm the week of launch and perhaps the weight of the garment ?
Regards,
David
No I can’t David, sorry. We don’t have the former confirmed yet, and I don’t have the latter either.
I recently snapped up a Private White VC ventile Trench coat in the sale for only £390, over £500 off! The trenches are available in sage, midnight blue and deep ocean blue (most sizes apparently) if you are interested.
In terms of the OCBD shirts, how would you rank the offerings in the store in terms of usability/versatility and the order you would get them? In the store you’ve got solid white, blue, yellow and pink as well as blue, pink and green stripes. In which order would you buy them starting from scratch if you were building a wardrobe?
I’d say blue or white first, depending on how smart you dress. Then the other one, then perhaps one of colours for variation, and then a blue/white stripe
How would you rank the colour versions?
I’d say pink is probably the easiest to wear, and if you like pink less, then the pink stripe. Followed by yellow and green stripe together
I you had the pink, what would you get next? Still the pink stripe or one of the yellow or green stripe?
Of the colours, green stripe
Hi Simon
Looking through the list I didn’t see a restock of the linen Harrington. I’m on the waiting list and was hoping it would come back before the end of summer. I guess there won’t be a restock until next spring?
That’s right, sorry Richard. It’s just a spring item, like the coats being just autumn
Hi Simon,
In comparing prices from the PS Shop to PWVC, I noticed the latter is more expensive. For example, the Bridge Coat on the PS website is £745 plus £25 shipping = £770. I live in Australia so converting at the current exchange rate of 0.5 equals AUD 1,540. On the Private White website, the AUD amount is 2,000. Is there normally such a large difference between the two websites?
Thanks.
Hi Vinay,
The price you’re looking at on our site is without taxes. On the PWVC site, they’ve calculated your local taxes in advance.
Hi Simon,
For the second payment window on the indulgent cardigan, will that be emailed out or how is that accessed please?
In regards to the Shetland tweed which I think is beautiful, is the Harris tweed likely to be more versatile than it? I’m asking this from the point of view of your complete capsule and having a second jacket made (navy having already been completed) that would go with grey trousers, chinos and jeans?
Thanks,
Rory
I’d say the shetland would be about the same in terms of versatility. If I had to pick though, I’d go with the Harris.
The second payment details will be emailed out.
Hi Simon, unfortunately I missed the boat on both the Harris & Shetland tweed. Any idea on timelines of when they’ll be back in stock please?
It won’t be until next summer, ready for people to order and have things made for the winter
How long is the new raincoat?
Below the knee
Hi Simon. Asking this here given the “Autumn-Winter” inspiration. Norton&Sons (a brand I know from a fine tweed sportcoat I got in a vintage shop) is coming for a trunkshow to NY. They advertised a while ago on their IG a stunning Fox Bros windowpane db jacket and could make me a MTM suit with that cloth for about $2300. Their head cutter Nicholls would be taking measurements. It all sounds wonderful, but I read some very negative reviews on Yelp about extremely long waits and poor finish (even for bespoke). Those reviews are admittedly quite old (6+ years ago), a time when N&S apparently changed head cutters every year or so. Would you recommend this brand today, and their MTM service? Or are there other brands you’d recommend? I am drawn to high quality MTM as fully bespoke remains a bit pricey for me. Grazie mille for your kind attention, as usual!
Hi Isaia,
The team has largely changed since then, yes – new owners and new cutter – so I wouldn’t have thought those old reviews would be that relevant.
But they’re also the kind of place, like most of Savile Row, where people would go for bespoke, not for MTM, as there’s not much advantage getting MTM from the Row. (It’s not being cut or made in the same place.)
For MTM I’ve tried and would recommend, have a look at the list of ones I’ve covered here.
If you can get to NYC, why not visit Cad&the Dandy there? Their off-shore bespoke will run you about as much as those mtm prices.
Please describe in more detail your upcoming new raincoat and your new winter tweed coat.
Hi Ariel,
We deliberately don’t do this, because questions always beget questions. By the end you’re trying to describe something in words that would be much better shown in images when it is actually available.
However, people do like to know the basics, like the fact that one will be single and one double-breasted, both below the knee.
I can’t wait to get the PS x Drake’s raincoat! Is it similar to your Drake’s one?
Thanks. Have you seen a reference by them to it?
Is there a plan for an Autumn/Winter pop-up where we might get to see the new additions in person ? Or perhaps an event for the book launch ?
Would also add to the clamour for a recreation of those elusive armoury army chinos ! Would be great !
Yes there will be a pop-up, we just don’t know where or when yet
Goodday,
will you restock the Dartmoor in the light color you had before? I waisted mine in laundry.
We will only be restocking the navy this Autumn, as there is stock in the other colours, but we will look to new colours in the Spring. You mean the cream presumably?
Heya Simon, was thinking of picking up some lambswool sweaters crew and v necks from Rubato. I was wondering if I should hold off for your Cashmere project item/s since I only have a limited budget.
I am sure you can’t say much, and the material is clearly different (lambswool v cashmere), but are there any styling similarities between them? Or is a fairly different sort of thing?
I’d say it’s fairly different. The Rubato knits have a very different, distinct shape
Hi Simon- a touch off topic on this thread, but I couldn’t find a more appropriate recent article to make the ask. Do I remember you mentioning you have a Solaro suit in the make, and if so, do you expect to publish your thoughts on it soon?
I’ve always loved the fabric and wanted to have one made, but have concerns about how versatile it is, how hot it is, and just how far you can integrating it into a business wardrobe (in LA).
Just asking to see if I should wait on your article before taking the plunge! Thanks, Simon.
Hey Justin,
Yes I have and I will cover it. It won’t be in the next couple of weeks, but I will cover it
Hi Simon, the second edition of the Style Guide, how much will be new and how much will be left out if any, and for The Casual Style Guide, how casual will it be as the images on the shop seems to me for the Style Guide to be pretty casual already, and will pricing be around 30-35 English? I can only justify one or the other, it might end up being a toss of the coin decision.
The new edition of The Style Guide is pretty much exactly the same, just a tidying up of design and a slightly different size. It had one section out of four that was casual – the rest was tailoring. The new one is all casual, but still the kind of clothing we talk about on PS (no streetwear!)
Simon, any chance of the navy lightweight polo making a reappearance?
No, but the new Friday Polo will be closer to it in terms of weight
Thanks for this latest instalment of ‘coming soon…..’ – its still really helpful.
Very interested to see the brown cashmere rugby, and the new grey winter coat.
It wasn’t mentioned so I’m not holding out much hope – but a re-run of the finest polo in charcoal at any time?
I’ve got this and the dartmoor in navy and cream, but missed the charcoal release and really, really want one 🙂
The Finest Polos will be back in the Spring, Ant. We haven’t decided what colours to do, but the hope is definitely noted!
Hello Simon, just checking in on the Shetland Tweed, will this still land in August? Very much looking forward to upcoming releases and hoping you keep XXL in the range for us gents with a chest of 118cm!
Yes, it shouldn’t be long, hopefully next week. I presume you’re on the waiting list?
Excellent and you bet! I’m on the list and many other lists in your shop 😁
Nice
Good morning..items 4 the fall and winter 2023-24…much success 2 PS…cheers
This is exciting news, indeed!
I realize this may be next season, but any idea if the finest polo will be offered again in cream?
Thank you!
We don’t yet sorry, no, we haven’t decided on the colours for next Spring
Hi Simon, do you think you’ll ever do a run of the brown donegal again? As ever, thanks
No we won’t, sorry Daniel
Am I on the safe side with ordering a 2.5m length of the Shetland tweed for a Neapolitan jacket (with patch pockets), as I am 5.10 tall with normal built? I have not decided yet when I can take a trip to Naples and I don’t want to ask the tailor many months up front. At the same time I don’t want to miss out on the fabric.
Do you have some new pictures from the Shetland made up in your new Anthology jacket (I believe?). Thanks!
Yes you should be fine.
No new pictures yet, but there will be some
Shetland cloth arrived today, thanks, it’s lovely. Did you have the shetland jacket fully lined? Is it advisable with this cloth? I think you had minor issues with your half lined gun club tweed. Thanks!
I did, and I would have it fully lined. Nothing wrong with half lined with this cloth if you want, but I see less attraction in that these days, and slightly more annoyance when the jacket sits on my behind, or isn’t as easy to get on etc
Hi Simon
Thank you. Will the navy Donegal coat restock be with the same cloth as the prior versions?
Yes
Hello Simon, can you comment on the Shetland tweed versus the grey herringbone tweed? Which do you find more versatile, or rather, which do you wear more?
Also, do you think the fact they are both herringbone means these wouldn’t make for a two-jacket wardrobe?
Thank you!
This is great news. Have been waiting for the coat restocks. Are the coats and jackets stocked by any store in London? I’ll be travelling to London in October and would love to try them first.
We will have a pop-up at some point in London, Shom, likely in October. There will also be one in New York (each for four days).
The major outerwear pieces will also be available to try on at William Crabtree in London from October 1
Thank you! Look forward to the pop up in NYC.
Simon,
May I ask when you expect to hold the pop-up in New York, and which makers you might be bringing with you?
I think it will be October 18-21, but we don’t have that or the full line-up confirmed yet
Thanks, Simon, looking forward to it!
Planning some fall outerwear purchases. Do you expect the price will hold steady on the wax walker and bridge coat?
They’ve gone up slightly this year, but the price on the site now is the one for this season and won’t change
Hi Simon, please could you tell me if the new Friday Polo will come in white? Also when it may be in stock? Thanks
Hi Edward,
Yes it will, white and navy, and it should be about 10 days from now.
Hello, Simon. I am curious as to whether the Finest Crewneck release remains on track for this month. I purchased it in navy when first offered and I have found it to be tremendously useful. I purchased the charcoal version of the Finest Polo and have loved wearing the color this summer. So a charcoal Finest Crewneck is an item that I very much look forward to wearing.
Hey Chris,
That’s so nice to hear. I think it is going to be a little delayed unfortunately – so many things are at the moment. We’re hopeful for October
Heya Simon
I was looking to refresh my cashmere knitwear collection this fall with several Colhay’s crewnecks since I have gained some weight and need to adjust my size.
Would your cashmere project be similar in nature to that product? Might delay my purchases if that is the case.
Yes it will be David
Hi Simon,
Just saw your comment on delays this month and was wondering if the undershirts are still looking on schedule?
Yes I think so
Wanted to double check on the black nubuck/ bullskin tote – it is down as out of stock on your website but there is a note that both colours are in stock? Is it yet to land or have I missed it this time round?
Thanks
You missed it I’m afraid Freddie, they’ve all gone. We have done a re-order but it will be a few months before we have them. Always worth adding your name to the waiting list in the meantime in case one comes back
Hi Simon,
Surprised to hear that the raincoat will be Olive. You usually go for the most classic, versatile colours for your pieces. I thought for a raincoat that would have been Beige?
Wait and see Daniel – I think beige isn’t quite as versatile actually in this style, and it’s not a style everyone likes (a little old-fashioned etc)
Any plans to re-stock brown Harris?
Not at the moment, no, sorry
Will the resupplied undershirts and new raincoat be presented in an article before they are released on the shop?
The raincoat will be, yes, as it’s a new product. The undershirts won’t as it’s a restock. But if you’re on the waiting list for the undershirts you’ll get an email before they go live to everyone else, alerting you
Thanks, are the undershirts still coming in September? I am planning a larger order to save on postage.
They’re looking like October too, sorry Carl
Ok, Thanks. Do you have many grey Dartmoor size Large in stock? I dont want to wait and see them gone.
Yes we have quite a few, no issues there
Can we expect an Autumn pop-up featuring some of this stuff? Would love to try some things on.
Yep, that will be announced in week or two. Will be held beginning of November
Hi Simon,
I was bummed to see that the PS Harris Tweed has now sold out. Is this likely to be restocked next year?
Also, are you able to comment on the differences between the PS Shetland Tweed and the oatmeal cashmere cloth of your Elia Caliendo jacket, both in terms of versatility and weight/season?
Sorry Angus, we have run it for a while now. No current plans to bring it back next year, but we’ll see.
I’d say the PS Shetland Tweed is similar in terms of the seasonality, and similarly versatile, but the cashmere is a little smarter. The tweed wouldn’t be so good with office wear, the cashmere not so good with more casual denim etc
Lucas – ETA on Cashmere Rugby and Arran Scarf?
The Arran scarf is in stock now. The Cashmere Rugby will be towards the end of the month
Looks like the rugby navy was restocked today and the X Small sold out instantly? You get two made, Simon, ha?
Sorry Michael, there are lots in grey!
The Navy XS is already sold out? 3 hours post email?
Yes sorry, there were only 3 in that size. There are still in brown and grey though
Simon – out of curiosity (it might be worth you doing a post on this actually) but why do clothing brands get 3 of each size made and end up with excess stock in certain sizes through out the year creating a drag on cash flow? I don’t mean this question to be inflammatory – and you are definitely not the only clothing brand to get it wrong. Particularly when you have the benefit of a preorder form – so you would know, 24 people have asked for XS and 2 have asked for XL – why would a brand then ask for 3 made up of each size? The only thing I can think of is you see this particular garment reading as XS as being on the periphery of sizes – but in the very same post you talk about it running large and to size down, so XS really is for those wearing S/M (majority of the pop to be honest). The other thing is that customers usually want one item and are so-so on others but basket them all. For instance I was contemplating watch cap and scarf if I could get rugby but then you lose out on all three. Shops will probably tell you that people don’t come in to buy scarves but usually buy one when they are buying something else. I will check back on scarves and caps at the end of winter to see how you went!
Same thing happens for shoes as well, my UK 7 EGs sold out in 3 hours on Marrkt and talking to the owner they just said UK 7 is a popular size! So I asked EG and they said they definitely don’t make the same volume across sizes (but they have been playing this game for decades).
Hi Michael,
I’m not sure that’s really the case. Most brands spend quite a lot of time trying to work out what the ‘size split’ is for a new order of stock, including us. The problem is it’s a hard thing to get right, because while the previous year twice as many mediums might have sold than smalls, for instance, by definition those same people don’t need one this year.
It’s also harder the smaller you are as a brand, because a couple of orders in one direction or another can really skew things.
We have a fairly consistent spread of an equal number of people buying medium and large, and half buying small and x-large. But in the riders raincoat, for instance, we are sold out on most sizes but still have nine size smalls left. It can often defy logic.
It’s also part of the reason brands are forced to do some kind of sale at some point, because otherwise all those smalls will just never sell.
I hope that makes sense
I don’t think the Cashmere Rugby runs large at all by the way, in fact quite the opposite. I’m a Large or an X Large in most things, but I took an XL in the navy last year and found it a bit short in the sleeve and a little too slim fitting for my taste. I bought the XXL in brown this year (gorgeous colour) and still wish it was a little longer.
Sorry Oliver, I meant it runs small – we did talk about that in the launch post. Thanks for adding your experiences too
Hello Simon. I was checking the suggested release date for the cashmere polos, specifically in the new brown. I noticed the brown is listed but sold out. Has it come and gone already or has it just been added to the available colors and awaiting release? Thanks!
Carl
It’s awaiting release. Sorry if that’s confusing Carl – there is no Shopify button for ‘Incoming’
Thinking of grabbing a one of Rubato’s grey cashmere sweaters. I already had the nice lighter grey you recommended from Luca Faloni.
Do you plan on releasing a dark grey/charcoal as part of your cashmere crewneck project? Or will that be a different colour?
I’m afraid it’s the same grey as the Faloni – see today’s article!
That Faloni one is nice, and I’m really pleased you’ve enjoyed it. It’s just on small things I prefer the one we released today.
Hi Simon,
I cant see any new info about the new tweed db overcoat you mention on the site but there is a PS polo Coat in herringbone on the Anthology site. Is this the new one? Do you know when you will feature it on PS?
Kind regards,
Axel
No, that’s not it Axel. The new one hasn’t launched yet – it will be next week or the week after
Hey Simon, figured I’d check in on undershirts timeline to make sure i catch them. I am signed up on restock notifications but you know how anticipation is! Thanks
Yeah I know. They landed this week actually, so should be later this week or early next
Appreciate ya, Simon. I’m sure there’s some effort involved in getting them counted and listed so best of luck. Looking forward to them.
There is indeed. Cheers Calvin
Hi Simon,
May I know if the new denim shirts will be finally released during November?
Best regards,
Luis
I’m afraid not Luis no, there have been multiple issues with the samples there and they’re unlikely to be ready this year
I havent bought t-shirts from PS earlier but unpacked a shipment including both tapered tshirts in navy and grey and some undershirts. The fit and feel of the garments is really something extra.
Amazing, thank you Carl
Hi Simon, I was wondering if you have any plans to restock the Wax walker jacket in Medium anytime soon?
Also, would the new books be available at the pop-up store for the coming week?
Many thanks,
Jack
Hi Jack,
No on the Wax Walker I’m afraid, and no on the new book, that will be launched a good while later
I have read in the comments there are no current plans for restocking the PS Harris Tweed. Are there plans for the PS Shetland Tweed to make a return?
Also, with the first weekend of November here, the holiday shopping is in full swing. Do you think an update to the remaining shop items could be possible? It would be nice to know what may still make it and what seems to be delayed past the holidays or even this year/season.
Thanks.
We don’t have plans on either of the tweeds yet Ben, but we wouldn’t decide on those until the spring, and restock in August.
What of the other products were you especially interested in? (Sorry, I just try to keep product updates to a minimum – though I assume you saw the updates on this article recently?)
The link you provided pretty much summed up the info I was looking for. I did not read the article. I thought it was just about the upcoming talk. My apologies.
As for the fabrics… I would be interested in restocks for the Shetland and the Escorial Tweeds. My brother is really interested in the Shetland, I was able to get a length for myself. And the cream linen that did not make it this year would be on my radar.
No worries, and thanks on the fabrics Ben, noted. I don’t think the cream linen will ever make it though unfortunately…
Sorry to comment on a post from 4 months ago… I saw H&S dropped a new linen bunch, Linen Collection (HS2420). Is the 310g / 10oz Ecru Solid (2024024) similar to the cream linen from H&S? Or do you have any recommendation for linens in that perfect not-white, not-beige color?
Thanks.
I haven’t looked at the linens recently Ben, sorry. I can try and remember to next time I’m on the Row though.
Never a problem to comment on old posts – PS articles never get old, they only mature
Hi Simon, is this a legitimate listing
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/325859260572?hash=item4bdeb9b89c:g:fh4AAOSwt55lNsSA
As far as I know David, yes
Hi Simon,
Was wondering (if you’re able to share) how far out the casual style guide is? I’d like to order something from the shop but if it’s coming out this month I’d be happy to wait and save on duplicate shipping.
It’s going to be early next year I’m afraid Alex
Will you write something about how you use and combine the new colors on old items. Like the Charcoal Arran, Charcoal Finest Knitwear and Brown Watch Cap? (I dont really think we need a text about the grey t-shirt, that’s more obvious).
Sure Carl. The charcoal Arran you will have seen around for years, eg here, and I showed the brown watch cap here with one outfit (as well as the brown rugby, but can certainly do more
Ok, thanks. I had missed that the charcoal Arran had been around for years. I actually bought the brown cap to wear it with the light grey Donegal (bought the later one from someone who got the wrong size). When do you think the charcoal finest knit is “better” than the navy? In a “cold capsule”?
Yes, mostly in those outfits, and sometimes it’s a nicer partner to colours, especially shades of brown or green. Eg in that article I linked to on the Teba jacket, a charcoal scarf is a nicer with the coat and jacket colours than navy would be
Hi Simon,
I’m planning on replacing my hat, and I’m struggling with the choice of colour between navy, black, and ecru.
Considering I have a very ecclectic style, ranging from formal suits and ties to wax jackets and jeans to streetwear, what coulour would in your opinion be most versatile? I’m thinking ecru as it should go with everything else, but is it going to look off with say a camel overcoat and a dark suit ?
Thanks
No I wouldn’t say so, I think that’s a good choice PA
Thanks !
Dear Simon
Do you know when your new book “The Casual Style Guide” will be released?
It will be next Spring, Dieter
Hi Simon,
I see theres only 1 left in the navy cashmere rugby small but will need more than one unit so was wondering when the next restock will be?
Thanks
Not until next Autumn I’m afraid Pete. I’d get that one while you can
Hi Simon,
Would you be able to comment on the new PS denim shirt’s style details (collar, placket, etc)? Thanks!
Not yet, sorry Marcus
Hi Simon, PS shop team.
Hope you are well. I am an avid reader and love your stuff. I wanted to check the restock schedule for the various items on the PS shop. I am looking for the t shirts, undershirt and the fabrics. Please can you let us know through a similar article like this?
Thank you in advance.
Regards
Shamanth
Hi – yes, there will be one in February. Any questions, let us know then. Cheers
